The American Fighting Art

The Gun

I have been practicing martial arts since the mid 1980’s; and in all of my training have been on Asian based martial arts. There are schools that teach very practical systems from close quarter combat, knife, stick, hand to hand, and much more.

The majority of the main stream martial arts schools are focused toward fitness and sport martial arts, which has nothing to do with reality self defense. But I am not taking anything away with what each school does; they all have value in their own way.

But the big question is why do so many martial art schools don’t take the time to teach and fully understand firearms. Yes, there are schools that teach gun disarms, but does the person know how to use a gun themselves. One thing I teach is knife defense, but I also teach the offensive and tactics side of the knife to fully understand everything possible about the knife.

At my school I look at firearms the same way, you need to understand both sides of a gun, offensive and defensive. Then there are the different types of firearms and calibers, from the handgun to the assault rifle. We have our Military, Police and Swat teams, Special Forces, Navy Seals and others, who are well trained in firearms.

The United States Revolution was won with firearms along with hand to hand combat and every war since. So this should tell you that one ’s self defense training should include firearms training. In another words a well rounded martial artist should be well trained in empty hand, edged weapons, and impact weapons, to firearms.

All martial arts systems have stance, footwork, and body control, the same in firearms training. Many martial arts systems understand breathing properly, the same in firearms training. Having the mentally to fight back under stressful situations from repetition of training, the same in firearms training.

With the increase of crime people will need to be prepared for almost anything, from the average robbery to civil unrest. Martial arts movies put a false since of security on people thinking they can defend themselves without the worries of a gun being involved. I am a Deputy of a local Sheriff department, and almost all assault cases have some form a weapon involved.

Yes you need to train in empty hand training, close quarter combat, and learn everything you can. But the firearm is more powerful than any ones Chi can bring up, it does not matter how strong your body is, that one bullet can still kill you.

This is for people who practice firearms on a regular basis who do not train in some form of hand to hand combat; you too are at risk of getting your gun taken from you. Everything I mentioned for the average martial artist is in the reverse effect for the person who doesn’t understand firearms retention and defense. The Russian Spetsnaz (Special Forces) is a good example of balance with firearms and martial arts training (Russian Systema).

Going to the firing range and just shooting at targets is not enough. One must understand the art of combat shooting, and train the way you will fight. A person should fully understand firearms retention with their handgun or rifle under a stressful situation. Non retention tactical reloads of your magazine while under fire with your handgun or rifle.

Shooting on the move, and how to take cover while under fire, and always know where you are shooting. What is behind the person shooting at you, one will need to be aware of your surroundings at all times. There is so much at stake when someone is defending themselves, family and friends.

There are thousands of Martial arts systems out there, but the American marital art is the gun. We know our guns; we are a people who believe in our right to bears arms, as mentioned in the 2nd Amendment. We as Americans understand if we lose this right, which will lead to losing all of our rights as a free nation, history always repeats itself.

Good Luck in your training….

Gun Control

Gun Control - to take away our 2nd Amendment rights to protect ourselves will make everyone sitting ducks for the criminals. When criminals know you can fight back, crime goes down. The cities with gun control laws such as; San Francisco, Chicago, Washington D.C, and New York to name a few, crime is very high.

Second Amendment US Constitution,

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

What does the Bible say about self defense; Exodus 22:2 says, “If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed.”  Ecclesiastes 3:3 says, “A time to kill” ….. Exodus 20:13“Thou shall not kill”, this verse is sometimes mis – interpreted.   Luke 22:36  “But now,” he said, “take your money and a traveler’s bag. And if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one!

Killing someone in self defense and murder is two different things.

Police generally advise private citizens to comply with a robber's demands. Wrong….this will get you killed.

Comply with robber's demands? At what level?

Give him your wallet?

Give him your wife?

Give him your kids?

Give him your life?

WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE WITH A CRIMINAL?

There are thousands of dead victims who have complied with criminals' requests (and were slaughtered like farm animals). Instead of answering the request with immediate, overwhelming and incapacitating violence against their attackers.

Criminals expect you to comply, so when you are armed and take the fight to your assailant, YOU have the overwhelming advantage. There are no more safe places to go; Churches, work, stores, home, schools etc.

Tips to conceal carry a handgun.

1. Is it Accessible
2. Is it Defendable
3. Is it Comfortable
4. Is it Concealable

5. Are you trained

Appendix carry should be a priority for faster accessibility to fight back.

Carrying a hand gun in a purse, backpack etc. slows your chances of accessibility to fight back..

Seconds matter..
